CELEBRATION OF WORLD OZONE DAY-2022 organized by Department of Agronomy in collaboration with Department of Soil Sci. & Agril. Chemistry, College of Agriculture, J.A.U., Junagadh during 16th September-2022.
World Ozone day, also known as International Day for the preservation of the ozone layer is observed annually on September, 16 to bring attention to the ozone layer and dangers of ozone depletion. The purpose of the day is to raise awareness about the importance of preserving the ozone layer.
Global Co-operation to Protect Life on Earth’s has been chosen as this year’s theme in order to encourage sustainable development.
28th World Ozone Day which takes place simultaneously around the world on 16th September, every year. It was also celebrated by the Department of Agronomy in collaboration with Department of Soil Science & Agril. Chemistry, College of Agriculture, J.A.U., Junagadh.
The event had in attendance, Dr. S. G. Savalia, Principal & Dean, CoA, Junagadh, Dr.R. M. Solanki, Director, Students Welfare, Dr. K. B. Parmar, Associate Director of Research, Dr. P. D. Kumavat, Professor & Head, Department of Agronomy, teachers, non-teaching staff as well as PG students of the NRM Group. Total 60 participants were present on this event. Participants at the event were welcomed by the Dr. P. D. Kumavat, Prof. & Head, Department of Agronomy. Introductory remarks presented by Dr. S. J. Sindhi, Assistant Professor, Department of Agronomy, He briefed the preventive measures to reduce the generation of pollutants by minimizing ozone depletion substances. Our Principal & Dean, Dr. S. J. Savalia, in his presidential address, giving highlights on the importance of World Ozone Day and the need for a holistic thinking while relating with the planet for save life. He also emphasized on the 4R’s which he called Reduce, Reuse, Recycle & Rethink and urged participants to always use the “R’s” as their watch world while dealing with the environment.
Our Guest Speaker, Dr. S. V. Viyol, Environmental Scientist, Department of NRM, Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari, He delivered special lecture entitled on “Save Ozone Save the Planet”. Dr. Viyol briefed about the reason of ozone layer depletion by use of CFC’s and other pesticide and chemicals. He mentioned adverse effects of ozone layer depletion on flora, fauna, environment & human health. He also urged all participants to work together phasing out ODS, as well as in contributing significantly to protect ozone layer.
The programme finally concluded with, showcasing of video on “Ozone hole will End the World in Year 20……?” On this auspicious day, an Oath was taken by Mr. Kuldeep Malam, SRF to all participants for protect ozone layer and save life on earth.
